A couple tidbits as of late - one is that I finally got my 100th mount after farming like crazy the last couple months on rep and pvping. Another is that I dropped my Kirix pet (I hate giving up a rare, but since I already had Deth'tilac, I didn't even need the yellow spider).

I gave way to a pet that I thought I would never own because I absolutely hate them as a pet - a blue Dragonhawk from the Sunwell Plateau. Its not an easy tame, but not that hard either. I just had to mount up and rush past the first wall of defenders and feign death. Choosing a pet was not easy, as each one was near its master. I sat for a moment, thinking of a tactic, when off to my left, one of them was 'patrolling' off by itself. Its like it knew I was there for it, and wanted to go away with a kinder master than its current one in Sunwell. I just simply dropped a Freeze trap and tamed away. It gave me an extra second of taming time, being away from the mobs of Blood Elves nearby. I was down to about 50% health when the tame finished. Despite dying there, I was able to come away with a wonderful, uncommon Dragonhawk. It matched my new mount and Blue DragonHawk companion pet nicely...
On the other hunter, I decided to tame King Mosh. The elusive Devilsaur seems quite content to be with Kahlen as his protector...
Every time I ran through and made this beast spawn, I felt more and more compelled to tame it. I've never been a fan of Warp Stalkers, and add the fact that Actaeon's stables are full. Well, while on Khalen doing a Wintersaber daily, Shy Rotam is there sleeping, just begging to be tamed. I nabbed him, and then quickly realized that this is the solution I needed. I had this same cat in Actaeon's stable for so long, but never have used him at all. So, releasing back into the wild seemed like a logical thing to do to make room for this new Stalker I planned to get.

After completing all my Skyguard rep finally, I summoned and tamed Gezzarak. I have fallen in love with this pet from the moment it joined my stables. There is something compelling about this creature that I never really noticed before. She is a very tough little tenacity pet indeed, and fun to have around. And, 'Nessy' gets along great with Loki and Portia (Chrommagus and Deth'tilac respectively), not to mention Aeonaxx. I suddenly have moved into a purple state of mind...
Its happened to me on more than one occasion, and I have been able to track down my pets or mounts with uncanny accuracy that even surprises me. My hunt for Aeonaxx is one of those moments that left me giddy.

I had been camping for Aeonaxx for about a week, spending up to 4 to 6 hours a day in Deepholm. Not a lot of time, but a decent amount. For the most part, I camped it alone, occasionally being joined by my friend to help pass the time. Then a new person joined the camp and I was a little bit worried that she would get it over me, as she was equally determined as I. Thankfully, she was an extremely nice person and we shared some information of Aeonaxx and other rares in the area.

One day, she informed me that Xariona had spawned while I was not online. Interesting, I thought. She also informed me that she would be preoccupied over the weekend and not be on to camp it. I figured this is my narrow window of opportunity to find the dragon for myself. Saturday proved fruitless in my occasional camp and I had no sensations that there would even be an appearance. But during the day, one of my guildmates asked in chat if they want to share credit in killing a rare to the south. We did that and I felt encouraged as I thought it was Aeonaxx's time next. Just a gut feeling.

Sunday morning, I had that weird feeling, like my hunter's senses were spiking. I log on, but no sign of Aeonaxx. I got an impression that I should run a few dailies on my hunter and a couple other characters first. So I left the zone and did that. I cam back after I was done and camped for about 40 minutes in my usual spot to the north west. Suddenly, I felt overwhelmingly compelled to move to the north east spot. So I followed my instinct and moved within range of it, trying to stay as close as I could to the NW spots. About 20 minutes, I get a blank sensation in side me, and I look up at my screen and suddenly NPC roars to life. I blinked. I hardly believed that it happened for a second. Then a targeted Aeonaxx, couldn't find her for another few seconds as I looked all around. Then it dawned on me, "look up". I did, and the big beautiful dragon had spawned almost directly above me. I quickly flew up and got on for the ride of my WoW life.

I think this was the most accurate time my inner voice or gut instinct ever was when it came to catching those rare beasts in this game. What gorgeous colored mount this is, and strangely, it matches Loki's color perfectly...

I had made an attempt once with a group of guild mates, but despite my studying the fight, I couldn't direct the fight past the first room, thus ending any attempt I made with what little help I could muster. They were kind to assist me, but none of us could go anywhere within Black Wing Lair.

Fast forward to tonight. A small group of folks were getting together to run Onyxia and Magtheridon's Lair for some quick achievements, so I casually asked if we could do a quick run into BWL after we were done those two. About half of the group, 5 others, plus myself, agreed to try to make a run at it. After needing to get some of the attuned to BWL, we proceeded to knock down the first room with great ease. The group leader, thankfully, knew exactly how to control the boss there, and the rest of us just did our duty to protect him. Sadly, the endless spawn bug forced us out and we had to wait for the spawns to disappear.

One group member had to leave at this point. Ok, I thought, we can still do this easily with just 5 of us.

Moving on, and two or three wipes later, we clawed our way deeper into the Lair. We get to the chamber that held Chrommagus and some confusion arose. Some didn't notice us state at the beginning of the run that I would be taming it, so once I started the tame, the aggro was pulled off me by another member attacking it. I could not grab aggro back and it wasn't long before we all wiped.

Argh! After all this, I thought to myself, to be this close and not get the tame was absolute cruelty. 1 Other group member then left, and my heart sank. Ok, I can tame it alone, without anyone near me, so I ran ahead of the other three. I got into the chamber where the suppression field is, and somehow drew aggro from Chrommagus a full level above me. Oh great, another problem! So there I was, alone, trying to figure out how to keep the tame on, but the creature just kept hitting me and breaking it. I was ready to get up and walk out of the room and quit for the night due to frustration, when the strangest thing happened that I cannot explain...

In the middle of combat, I morph into one of their own dragonkin (losing control of my character altogether), and broke aggro. The core hound returned to its spot and I, in dragon form, automatically moved through walls and up a level past the suppression fields. I never saw this mechanic in BWL ever before, so I cannot explain it. But it brought me up in front of the room where Chrommagus was, and I morphed back in my hunter. Its like something magical happened, and I felt a renewed surge within me. Chrommagus called to me now.

So now, truly alone, I dropped an Ice trap, drank a haste potion, and moved close enough to aggro. I used Deterrence and begun the tame. His hit attempts of course failing and I couldn't believe it - here I was, face to face, watching the slider roll down to zero. Then finally, the brilliant flash and Chrommagus shrunk down to my size. A loud howl by me, and great clap of the hands... At LAST! He was mine! As it turned out, one person witnessed it, one of the three others that stayed. He happily sat off to the side and watched the tame. The others were happy for me, of course, but I almost ended up taming it completely alone. Go figure. Strange how something like this turns into a one on one between hunter and pet in the end...
I went in blind, which I normally don't like to do. Meaning, I had no timer reference, no inside infor from other people in the zone, nothing. I did have help in some random people flying by, whom were looking for Loque instead; we exchanged pleasantries and promise to help each other out with our desired pets. I also had a generous friend help camp and search the zone often whenever I was around. Very nice to have another pair of eyes out there...

Anyways, with no sightings or rumours, or anything to go on, I suddenly came across Loque one early morning and quickly asked in guild chat if anybody needed him. Nothing. So I ask in open chat if there are any hunters who needed him. Nothing again. So I hummed and hawed for a moment, and thought to myself, 'well, I could kill Loque for part of the achievment'. So I sadly and quickly kill Loque. I then proceed to skin it, as if to hide the evidence of the sad deed I had just done. Part of that thinking was that no one else's NPC scan would give them a false hope that they found Loque.

So, I felt I had a bit of a timer reference now with a Loque sighting. I proceed to camp for Krush, often flying to his known walking zones to be in. And I camped, and camped, and camped. For 6 days I had been looking, trying to find some hint that Krush even existed still. I came to the realization last night that this was all payment for killing Loque and not feeling much remorse about until now. It saddened me to think I had killed Loque for some silly achievment, and vowed to not to add another anmial to that list. So finally, last night, after a long evening a hunting for him, I call it a night and head to dreamland.

This morning, something jolted me awake from a deep sleep. I could swear I was awakened by the roar of a Devilsaur. I heard it as clear as day like I was standing beside it. I fired up my laptop while still in bed and proceeded to fly the zones. I immediately notice on my map mod another hunter in the zone. Oh great, he probably tamed or killed Krush. No matter, I will check anyways. Left zone was empty, no sightings. Middle zone, also empty. I check the southern zone, no sign... but then suddenly, at the very last spot I needed to check, there was the monsterous Krush, meandering about the forest. The heart rush kicks in, and I drop down, use a haste potion, tame, forgetting about all the tricks I needed to do first. He stunned me, then feared me, and I cussed out loud. Stupid. Ok, calm down, and do what you do. I use disengage, and got down over a ridge. I used Concussive Shot, and drank another haste potion and before I could realize it, I had tamed Krush! Finally...

Now I can rest again... It was almost as if Krush and the pet spirits had forgiven me. Krush called out to me, wanting to be mine. Definitely the longest camp of any pet I've had to find, one I hope to never repeat. Luckily, the last pet I need is in a Dungeon.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3933845209779891176.post-1779282271117632402011-09-06T18:26:00.000-07:002011-09-06T18:26:00.673-07:00Things to do while hunting a rare spawn...So here I sit, thinking of something to do while camping and hunting down King Krush, the one rare spawn I never went after until now. I never hunted him, as I figured any Devilsaur will do. However, Rip the white Devilsaur was not doing it for me anymore, since I feel I have too many similarly colored pets and want to mix in some color. Strange way of saying I want to tame Krush. Anyways, I digress.

I find that when I am in one of my rare long hunts for a rare pet, I will do things in the game to pass the time. In the Basin, its not so bad, as one can fly from spawn area to spawn area and pass some time that way. But most times, I find myself in one spot or another, laying low, waiting. I will light a campfire, and time the 5 minutes for when it burns out - then light another one. I will jump back and forth as randomly as a possible, throwing a feign death in there now and again. I will use various items in my inventory that will disguise me, like the Orb of the Sin'dorei and Ancient Amber. Its a funny the reactions I get when some random player comes along to see a corpse or an frozen person in Amber in the camp spot. They usually laugh at me, then ask if I am camping so-and-so beast. I amuse myself too easily sometimes, but one has gotta pass the time somehow, lest we go insane and talk to our animals...

"Come out, come out where ever you are Krush!" Oh no... too late...

What do others do to pass the time? I'd be interested in knowing.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I, like many other hunters, have enjoyed these new challenging pet tames the have been brought into the phased Hyjal and Molten Front. I have had mine for a little while now, but thought a comment or two was in order. I got most of my tames with help from complete strangers, even some from the opposing faction (that makes me smile the most, really). Unless you have guildmates willing to camp a spawn tame with you, chances are you are on your own when it comes to tracking them down. Once a pet appears for you, do not be afraid to ask for help in open chat. That might attract attention of other hunters looking to tame that pet, but most times, they will bow out and help you tame it first.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">That doesn't mean one cannot tame these new ones on their own. The spectral cats definitely can be soloed. Some of the spiders can be kited a long time before they become weak enough to tame. Skarr and Karkin might miss with their fireballs. I've even seen a Goblin hunter solo Kirix the spider, and not even using the 'stand on a platform trick'. He knew what he was doing, and still not sure how he did it. I was impressed nevertheless.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Every one one of my tames in the new zone, except for my short-lived Ankha pet, I simply stumbled upon while questing. I even jumped right over Karkin the crab, not knowing it was there. Thankfully a friend pointed it out to me. It definitely helps being lucky too. I managed to tame Skarr with lots of Haste built up and a missed fireball. His was the only solo one for me in the Molten Front.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">So, here I sit, content with my stables, and they with me, I would hope. Its hard to be not pressed to focus on the timers for the next spawn of that elusive pet, but I enjoy thoroughly helping others fill their stables. I think I get as much of a thrill when I am there, directly helping a friend make that tame. I even recently was able to help a friend bring down Ban'tholos low enough to tame, at the cost of my hunter's life no less than 4 times. That one made me smile the biggest...

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">As I side note, I have personally noticed that there can be a bug with taming. It goes like this - if I start the tame, feign death before its broken, and have another player draw aggro before the evade thing kicks in, the tame will finish anyways. That is how I got Karkin, and almost got Skarr that way the first time I tried. I haven't read up on this and am not sure if other have encountered this issue, but I am not complaining.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3933845209779891176.post-31453504675341089572011-08-27T14:56:00.000-07:002011-08-27T14:56:46.922-07:00Torgos! Torgos! Torgos! on Hunter #2

So I have another hunter that I have been leveling lately, a Worgen, and have picked up pets that I've always liked, but not well enough to keep on my main hunter. I have already filled most slots, but had fun trying to tame Torgos. Took me a couple tries, as he would stun me during the tame. Its like he resisted the idea of being my pet. I would have none of that, as I wanted to add this bird as a main pet. Anyways, I finally succeeded and came back to actually finish the quest I was on that brought him down from the skies. I ended up with an interesting view...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3933845209779891176.post-62898849436476660292011-08-17T18:32:00.000-07:002011-08-17T18:35:46.528-07:00My pet listI plan to get pictures for each pet posted sometime soon, but in the meantime, here is a list of all my pets below (original name first, then followed by the name I changed them to). One of them will get the axe, so to speak, as I want to make room for that final pet, Crommagus. I am torn between letting go of, Olm, Smolderos, Oozeworm, or the two headed white vulture. I do have another hunter, so some of those minor rares can easily be picked up by him. Tough decision, but one I don't have to make yet, since I can't get a group to take me into Black Wing Lair. Oh well...

Karkin - Scylla
Skarr - Bastet
Magria - Trip
Ghostcrawler - Rickles
Terrorpene - Atuin

Gondria - Kasha
Arcturis - Bjorn
Skoll - Sakima
Loque'nahak - Duska

Olm - Ookpik
Sian-Rotam - Sky-Rotam

I can't help but notice that the majority of the pets ended in the letter A, and I ended up with a fair amount a white ones...
The other day, I hadn't been feeling too well, so I figured that would be an excellent opportunity to sit and camp the Ankha/Magria spawn point in Hyjal. Well, I had no idea when the last spawn was, but I figured surely I won't have to wait long, given my past history of short camp times. I set up shop in the early evening at the proper spot and faced the tree in which they spawn behind and waited. And waited. And waited. Soon, before I knew it, it was getting late and I was getting tired and needed some sleep. It was around 1 am my time when I decided to switch to my laptop and move to the couch, mostly because I still wasn't feeling well and didn't want to have to go up and down stairs in case the inevitable happened. (praying to the porcelain gods is no fun, and I am on a bit of a streak of doing so) Anyways, I digress.

I thought it would be beneficial to have my awesome G5 mouse from my desktop, rather than the crappy one I usually carry with my laptop. I even thought of sleeping on my back and keeping my hand on the mouse to prevent the game from timing out and logging me off. I woke up at 3 am to discover this trick was working perfectly. The simple movement of me breathing kept the mouse moving from time to time just enough to keep me on. Hah! Clever me. I surely will get this tame in no time. Finally, something woke me up around 7 am, and wow, I was really feeling ill when I did wake. I looked at the screen to see Magria had been picked up by npcscan, but the cat was not target-able, nor was it anywhere in sight from a quick flyover.

Suddenly, my stomach felt like it did a flip flop and I was quite nauseous. I jumped up and headed to the bathroom, but in my haste, I tripped on the mouse cord wrapped around me from the night's camping duty. As this occurred at lightning speed, but also in slow motion in my brain, I tried to step with my right foot, only to discover it snagged in the sleeping bag. Crap! As I am falling forward, I try one last time, albeit too late, to bring my left foot forward. I hear this tredmendous crash behind me, I fall forward and hit my face on a nearby cabinet that houses my Blu-Ray collection, and knocking me to the floor in a heap. Not dazed or stunned, I am dumbfounded as to how stupid that was. A few choice curse words flew out of my mouth and one quick thought flashed through my head - 'my teeth!' Then I checked and sighed to know that they were all there.

I jumped up and continued on the to bathroom and wasn't sick afterall. I did not even look behind me to see what happened to my laptop. When I did come back, it was upside down, facing the floor, yet intact and still logged into WoW. My mouse was another story. It had been broken off right at the USB connector and was not functioning at all. I cussed a few more times and plugged in the crappy mouse. I didn't even finish setting that up when Ankha spawns smack in front of me! Whaaaat! I luckily had already been not wearing armor and slapped the tame on the cat and it was mine.

All I could think of afterward, 'was that even worth what I just went through??' I shut down the computer and went back to sleep, after an advil to numb the pain in my face. And yes, the fall drew blood. :(

My friend heard this story and of course she laughed and laughed. o_O And I got the name Trip for my through all that.

However, I did not want to keep Ankha with an already full stable, so I set out to camp Magria today, with the knowledge that one of the cats had been tamed exactly 24 hours the day before. Sure enough, right on cue, Magria spawns in front me. I abandoned Ankha and claimed Magria as my new 'Trip'. Oh, and not before dying once too - forgot that my armor was on...
The reason? Simply put, just to share some experiences on my enjoyment of what it means to be a hunter within the game.

I have had several character within WoW over the years, but never really broke out and had a huge big deal of fun with them. I never felt comfortable raiding, but then again, I never could get leveled high enough to keep up with friends in guilds that I was in, before they got tired and disbanded altogether. I did manage to find a couple fun guilds over the years to call home, but none has ever lasted more than a few months after I joined. Was it my breath or something? I hardly ever say boo in chat, but always contribute with material recourses, or join in a group or help a lower guild mate in trouble with a hard quest. I have been able to make friends over the years, of course, but they too eventually disappear the way of the Dodo. The guilds just seem to never have a good core group. I will mention that I was in the Stormguards and The Namesakes on the RP server, Argent Dawn. Fun times, but I ramble.

I now find myself in a great big guild powerhouse called The Delinquent Society. Another solid guild, only much bigger than any I have ever participated in. This one seems to have a very solid core leadership, and as well a great bunch of mature, fun people to hang out with. I should take a moment to give a shout out to Etak, a friend in the guild with me, carried over from The Namesakes. Yo.

I was getting bored with WoW for a time, and I had this character, Actaeon, that I had created way back as a means to create leather armor for my main character, a Night Elf Druid. Back then, I had no idea how to use a hunter, nor did I truly know what it meant to be one. I knew that there were some coold looking pets out there, but never really knew that there were some rare ones to be found in the game. I was barely level 50 when things changed. Only when Wrath of the Lich King was released, did I discover a whole new world within the game of WoW. Oh my.

I began my humble begininngs looking for info on some different types of pets and came across some info on this one of a kind white gorilla named Uhk'loc from Un'Goro crater. I think I had gained a few levels by the time I decided to go there. Because of the low number of people in the old zones, I figured this was an easy quick tame. Wouldn't you know it, there was another hunter there who *just* tamed the gorilla before I did. He/she felt bad for me as we got talking, but promised me that if I tried again the next day, I surely would have it as my own pet. So I trusted this person's information and my own instincts and logged my character out of WoW within the cave where this gorilla resides. Sure enough, as I logged in nearly 24 hours later, there was this graceful looking white gorilla standing not too far away from me, waiting for me. I quickly and easily dropped a frost trap and tamed my first rare - I quickly named it Lelie, meaning Lilly white. The rare tame awoke something within me for this game. I felt moderately exhilerated, happy and satisfied that I occomplished this feat, despite the ease of finding this rare creaure. I quickly became determined to hunt down and find every pet rare pet available in the game at the time. Having an increased stable size only enhanced that desire, since I knew I would have plenty of room for all my needs. I quickly 'abandoned' all my common pets that I carried with me from the beginning (which was only 3 to start with anyways).

I then set out to power level, and seek more resources to find more rare pets to tame...
